Sublime. Subbies. The OG weekly Friday night that shaped Sydney’s nightlife. From its beginnings on Pitt Street in 1996 (were you even born, babe?) to its iconic home at Home Nightclub in Darling Harbour in the 2000s, Sublime brought trance, breaks, house and hard dance together under one roof and created an absolute legacy in Australia’s rave culture.
This wasn’t just another Sydney nightclub — it was the heartbeat of an entire community. And on Friday 3rd October, Sublime returns for one massive reunion. 🎉
What Made Sublime So Iconic?
We asked our legendary residents what made Sublime so unforgettable.
💬 Peewee Ferris:“Without a doubt, what made Sublime such a classic club was the people who gathered there every week—our loyal fans. They gave DJs like myself the freedom to push new boundaries, knowing they would join us on the journey, whether it was house, trance, or harder beats. They simply loved it all.”
💬 Matrix:“The music played by Nik, Peewee, Jumping Jack and Mark Dynamix paved the way for everything that has happened in the last 25 years. The best DJs in Sydney were all residents at Sublime, and that’s what made Subbies so iconic.”
💬 MC Losty:“Before the internet, the club was the best place to discover new music. Sublime gave us superstar DJs handpicking tracks across three or four rooms, exposing us to classic and future classics in one night. Add in Home Nightclub’s setting, and you had a golden era of music.”
💬 Amber Savage:“There has never been and never will be anything quite like Sublime. The fanfare, the sound system, the DJ’s, the prestige… but over time I realised the most special thing of all was YOU — the Voodoo Children. The stuff of legends.”
💬 Jackal:“For me it was definitely the music and the people. I’ve got lifelong friendships from those early Sublime days. The opening of Sublime at Home was massive — I’ll never forget the scale of that party.”
Favourite Memories of Sublime
The legends had plenty to say about their favourite nights at Sublime.
💿 Matrix:“My favourite memory was Armin Van Buuren playing a five-hour vinyl set. Watching from the backstage crew area, my jaw was on the floor. His track selection blew the place apart — the vibe was pure magic.”
💿 Peewee Ferris:“The energy — the bass, the strobes, the lights. Every week you’d walk in and feel it instantly. And I’ll never forget the surreal moment of seeing a four-storey poster of me out the front of the club.”
💿 MC Losty:“I’ll never forget the night I went from being a punter to an MC at Sublime. Looking over the balcony at Sydney Harbour, running between the breaks room and Voodoo floor, I realised I was on the A team. That was the night I knew I’d made it.”
💿 Amber Savage:“My favourite Sublime memory is yet to come… 2025, can you top the past two years?”
